Local and global background subtractions from the particle images

Effective removal of transient brightness spots and static background objects from particle images

Due to imperfect surrounding and imaging conditions, the particle images sometimes contain transient brightness spots, which differ in the different images of an acquired image sequence. The images sometimes also contain static background objects and patterns. The transient brightness spots are removed from the images by one of our local background-subtraction methods, and static background patterns are removed by one of our global background- subtraction methods. Extraction of 2D particles from the background-subtracted images become more efficient.
